Usually they hinder nursing and aren&#39;t a great idea, BUT if you have a baby born before full term, especially one that is drinking from a bottle, pacifiers are important. Babies need to do a lot of sucking, especially when they&#39;re little, and they get less suck time when they&#39;re bottle fed, so don&#39;t feel bad at all about using the pacifier right now!!! So bottle feeding and pacifiers do not signal the demise of your breastfeeding goals.
